The first LNG bunkering barge for the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, constructed by Hongtu Company, has entered the on-site installation and commissioning phase.

On the evening of December 27, 2019, a tow truck carrying a 100-cubic-meter LNG tank set off from HONGTU Company in Jingmen, Hubei Province, heading for Jiangsu Province under the dark night. On January 1, 2020, at the auspicious beginning of the new year, the LNG bunkering barge project undertaken by HONGTU Company was successfully installed. It is reported that this is the first LNG bunkering barge on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and the project is expected to be officially put into operation after the 2020 Spring Festival.

Since 2019, Jiangsu Province has fully implemented the important instructions of "General Secretary Xi Jinping on the construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt", using the application of LNG clean energy vessels as a starting point to build green ports and green waterways, striving to form a scale effect of LNG water transportation application in the Jiangsu section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in 2020, making cultural symbols, green construction, and ecological civilization its distinctive and shining symbols of high-quality development.

 

The project of the first LNG bunkering barge on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, built by CIMC Jingmen HONGTU Company, was born against this background. The construction of the project started in Jiangsu at the end of June 2019, while the main part of the 100-cubic-meter tank was manufactured at the HONGTU Company plant in Jingmen, Hubei Province.

 

The LNG bunkering barge has a total tonnage of 584 tons, a total length of 53.2 meters, a width of 12 meters, and one 100-cubic-meter gas storage tank. It is equipped with sewage treatment devices for domestic sewage and oily wastewater, and automatic dry powder fire extinguishers, water mist systems, and foam fire extinguishing systems to ensure the fire safety of the entire ship.

LNG bunkering barges are one of the LNG vessel refueling methods, complementing shore-based LNG refueling stations, improving inland river LNG refueling methods, and creating conditions for the large-scale promotion and application of LNG vessels. Previously, HONGTU Company built a 500-cubic-meter LNG bunkering barge with the largest capacity in China for the Greening the Yangtze River project. These projects have enriched the LNG vessel refueling methods in inland rivers and played a positive role in accelerating the construction of China's inland river LNG refueling network layout.
