In 2017, CIMC Himtu won the bid for 32 spherical tanks in a "world-class" integrated refinery and petrochemical project—the 40 million ton/year integrated refinery and petrochemical project of Zhejiang Petrochemical. Being able to participate in the construction of such a large-scale, strategically significant project is a recognition of Himtu's spherical tank capabilities and provides a qualitative leap for the future development of Himtu spherical tanks.
Starting in 2010, over 8 years, Himtu spherical tanks have grown from nothing to an industry leader. Beginning with great ambition, competing in a fiercely competitive market, and growing amidst national development, Himtu spherical tanks have ushered in their golden age.
Located in the northwest of Zhoushan, Zhejiang, the Da and Xiao Yushan Islands, covering only 26 square kilometers, are like a "super construction site" from the future world, far from the mainland. On the flat land between the hills and the coastline, giant petrochemical production facilities, tower cranes, and countless temporary housing units stand tall. Approximately 40,000 people are working intensely on this project, a world-record-breaking undertaking. A Zhoushan Green Petrochemical Base project, with a planned total investment of 173 billion yuan, is rising here.

This is a project that Premier Li Keqiang cares about, personally oversees, and promotes. In September 2018, the Premier visited the project construction site, and the workers cheered, surrounding him. "Your construction not only embodies China's speed but also China's quality. You must ensure quality and pay attention to safety; safety is paramount," Premier Li Keqiang urged.

Among the cheering crowd, Zheng Wei, project manager of CIMC Himtu spherical tank engineering project, and his team of over 400 people, shone with excitement. They are proud to represent Himtu in the construction of this world-class "giant" refinery and petrochemical project and are confident and determined to live up to the Premier's instructions, making the project construction a model in HSE, safety, quality, civilization, and progress.
A month after Premier Li Keqiang's inspection of the Zhoushan integrated refinery project, on October 30, 2018, good news came from the Zhejiang Petrochemical construction site on Yushan Island, Zhoushan. Himtu Company stood out from 300 project contractors, successfully winning three awards for the third quarter of the project construction: HSE advanced construction site, excellent engineering quality management construction unit, and advanced individual in engineering quality management, receiving high praise from the client.
On February 28, 2019, Zhejiang Petrochemical held its 2018 annual commendation meeting, commending outstanding construction units and individuals in 2018. A total of 52 construction units, 19 construction teams, and 98 advanced individuals were commended. In addition to Sinopec 10th Company winning all four awards, CIMC Himtu Company won three awards: Excellent Quality Management Unit, Advanced Progress Management Unit, and Advanced HSE Unit, ranking second.
The Yushan Island project in the Zhoushan archipelago is a key project to implement national strategies such as the "Yangtze River Economic Belt" and "One Belt, One Road," develop the Zhoushan archipelago new area in Zhejiang, enhance the international competitiveness of China's petrochemical industry, and promote the adjustment of China's petrochemical industry and refined oil market structure. Himtu's participation involves the installation of 32 spherical tanks in five sections of the Phase I project, including the finished oil tank area and the carbon dioxide unit, with a contract value of 120 million yuan. This 32 spherical tank installation project includes the assembly, welding, overall heat treatment, pressure testing, fire sprinkler and ladder platform fabrication and installation, and corrosion protection of 20 5000m³ spherical tanks, 4 4000m³ spherical tanks, 2 1500m³ spherical tanks, 4 1000m³ spherical tanks, and 2 650m³ spherical tanks.

More than 300 domestic and foreign construction units gathered on the super construction site of Yushan Island, including five spherical tank installation manufacturers [including CIMC Himtu, Dalian Jinding, Jianglian Heavy Industry, Anshan Container, and Shenyang Installation]. Given the intense market competition, stringent quality requirements, and challenging working conditions, why did Himtu stand out and receive commendations from the client?
Zheng Wei, project manager of the Engineering Business Department responsible for the project construction management, revealed the "mystery".
"Adequate preparations are essential for success." As early as December 2017, Himtu, as one of the early construction units to enter the site, investigated the infrastructure, site, and water and electricity of the entire construction site and communicated fully with the client and the supervisor, formulating detailed plans for construction progress, quality control, and logistical support.
In May 2018, after receiving the spherical tank construction drawings, the project team carefully reviewed the drawings and technical conditions and immediately discovered that the design requirements were exceptionally high, with tank body weld inspection mainly being Class C inspection and Class I qualification, making welding extremely difficult and demanding! The Himtu construction team developed a series of welding management measures, with dedicated personnel managing and inspecting everything from the first and second-level warehouses of welding materials to on-site welding management, promptly correcting non-conforming items during construction and ensuring a first-time welding pass rate of over 98%, earning praise from the client!
In response to the client's call to expedite the project, the finished oil tank area underwent a "100-day battle" of assembly. At its peak, five cranes were simultaneously used for hoisting, successfully completing the assembly of 24 spherical tanks in the finished oil area, providing valuable time for subsequent civil construction and pipeline installation!

It is understood that Zhejiang Petrochemical is a national key project, setting a historical record with its high requirements, high quality, and high standards. Faced with the challenging construction conditions of being located on an isolated island with inadequate facilities, inconvenient transportation, and variable weather conditions, the project team, with a maximum of approximately 400 people, worked to ensure construction progress. Zheng Wei introduced that in terms of the number of construction personnel, this project has set a new record in the spherical tank installation industry.

Furthermore, how to fully unleash the potential of nearly 400 construction personnel and ensure the project's timely and high-quality completion? The project team implemented strict management in various aspects, including safety, quality, progress, and coordination during construction. First, it strictly followed Zhejiang Petrochemical's safety management regulations, actively participated in safety training, and fully cooperated with the client and supervisor in safety inspections of the construction site; second, it consistently implemented the client's quality policy and objectives, strictly followed process procedures, actively cooperated with the client and supervisor in quality inspections, and formulated and strictly implemented relevant welding processes, resulting in a first-time pass rate of over 98% for the main body welding of the spherical tanks; and in terms of project progress, the CIMC Himtu construction team strictly adhered to the project schedule, planned in advance, and developed a detailed project schedule, enabling the entire project to proceed quickly and efficiently, meeting the client's schedule requirements.
With its efficient construction progress and rigorous quality control system, the CIMC Himtu project team deeply impressed the Zhejiang Petrochemical project client with its professionalism. On October 24, 2018, and February 28, 2019, the Himtu project team received quarterly and annual SHE, quality, progress, and civilized construction advanced unit awards from the client, the project's welding team 1 received the advanced team award, and project manager Zheng Wei received the advanced individual award for engineering quality management.

On the Zhejiang Petrochemical project site, high-level teams from the industry gathered, but Himtu spherical tank personnel demonstrated their strong sense of responsibility, embodying Himtu's unique craftsmanship, creating exquisite Himtu product quality. The Zhoushan refinery and petrochemical project is destined to be a significant achievement in Himtu's history and will usher in a golden age for us.
